Extension 3: Mrauk U
Hidden by the advance of the jungle, a small mountainous territory near the border with Bangladesh and within the Rakhine state, lays the town of Mrauk U. Mrauk U is accessible only by boat from Sittwe, in West Myanmar. The village is mainly characterised by its art and architecture and there are remains of Buddhist temples, along with the Pagoda of 80,000 Images (so named because of the number of Buddha statues there). It could qualify as a city, with some similarities to Bagan. There are fewer temples in Mruak U and the area is less explored by tourists which poses advantages and disadvantages.
First day
Yangon/ Mruak U
After breakfast there is a transfer to the airport for the flight to Sittwe, Thandwe track. Upon arrival in Sittwe there is a transfer to the port city located about 15 minutes from the airport, where a boat takes us to Mrauk U. The trip will last between 5 and 6 hours to cover the 65 kilometres separating Sittwe and Mruak U, the ancient capital of Rakhine. On arrival at the pier of Mruak U there will be a transfer by car to the Hotel Nawarat. After check-in there is some time to relax.
Second and third day
A daily breakfast at the Hotel is included. During our stay the area may be toured by car, accompanied by a Spanish/English speaking guide. There will be some time to take a rickshaw through the central market and contemplate the magnificent temples, which are grouped by reference to the site of the former royal palace. Mruak U has more than 150 Buddhist temples of great cultural value.
Fourth day
Mruak U/Yangon
After breakfast the guests return by boat to Sittwe for about 5-6 hours. Upon arrival, transfer to the airport for the flight to Yangon, followed by transfer to the Hotel.
Important information:
Hotel Nawarat: The hotel is simple and equivalent to a 2* hotel
Transfers: The transfer from the airport to the port of Sittwe is about 15 minutes, and transfer from Sittwe to Mruak U and Mrauk U and Sittwe lasts about 5-6 hours by boat.
- this extension, because flights only depart from Yangon or Thandwe, is recommended, because we always go through Yangon, or where customers will have an extension to the beach.
